Dr. Du Bois, the first African American to earn a PhD from Harvard in 1895, left a lasting legacy. We possess his signed dissertation, “The Suppression of the Africans, Leave Trade to America,” and an incomplete set of his encyclopedia “Africana,” which he was invited to Ghana for in 1961. This three-volume collection covers eight countries: Ghana, Ethiopia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Zaire, South Africa, Botswana, and Swaziland.
