This monument honors Theobald Wolfe Tone, leader of the 1798 Rebellion and the United Irishmen. Though unsuccessful, the rebellion’s failure paved the way for the Act of Union in 1801, starting Dublin’s decline. Behind the standing stones is another site marking a historic event 100 years later.
