Welcome to Jamestown in Accra , profoundly influenced by the Dutch. In 1869, the Dutch erected Fort Crèvecœur here for the slave trade. Nearby, the Salaga slave market operated, where slaves from Tamale and Burkina Faso were gathered for transportation on Dutch ships to Suriname and Guyana. This fort later became Ussher Fort under British control.
